The Approval Episode

These show notes are for Episode 0 of The Warcraft Syndicate Copyright 2009.

Intro – Welcome and Introduction of Stacalm and Gill

Segment 1 – Blizzard Blues

Patch 3.2 – The Good, the Bad, the Ugly.  Isle of Conquest, Trial of the Champion, Trial of the Crusader.  Hunter class Changes.  Mount changes.

Water Dungeon – Do you think an underwater dungeon would be interesting and fun?  Well Zarhym (Zare-m) discusses the conceptual design hurdles and possiblities of such a dungeon here:

“We typically never throw anything completely off the drawing board when it comes to conceptualizing fun content. I think there would have to be a good opportunity for a water dungeon in the game first, but more importantly, we’d have to really make sure it would be done right and feel fun. Under water combat can be a little chaotic, especially when using any sort of ground-targeting spell. We wouldn’t want to come out with such content were it to feel like the game play would suffer from the format of the setting.

In a way you could relate it to our decision to remove flying vehicles from Wintergrasp. It sounded awesome and was, in some cases, pretty fun. But it just didn’t feel right or balanced with the way it was implemented, made the zone even more chaotic and really fell short of providing the player with the physical sensation of being in flight.”

Leveling in the Old World – In response to complaints regarding unpopulated areas of the old world, Crygil (Cry-Gill) responded with this:

“We haven’t seen a stop come to leveling or “rerolling”. Players continue to reroll often, but it does seem that the endgame content is holding more attention now than it has in the past, which has resulted in some fairly stagnant areas through out the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor alike. We understand that a lack of players to group with in certain locations can make questing and leveling difficult. Fortunately, we are aware of these issues and we are working on solutions to them.”

New Classes Leaked! – Looks like Goblins (Horde) and Worgen (Alliance) are going to be the new playable races in the next expansion.  Which will be called Cataclysm!

Segment 2 – The Change Bank

Class Diversification – Blizzard has geared this game to PvP players, which has created a blending effect to the classes.  For instance, with the release of Wrath of the Lich King, rogues picked up a new ability called Tricks of the Trade.  Tricks of the Trade is nothing more than a rogue misdirect.  Hunters are meant to misdirect.  Not rogues!  We have seen many examples of this with the release of Wrath.  Why?  Because Blizzard is aiming at the PvP player.  PvP requires balance.  PvE does not.  In a PvE environment, a better gaming experience is brought about by class diversification.  We need to change this back to the way it used to be!

Ammo Tokens – We’ve seen many changes come to each class, but the one change I want to see happen for hunters is the elimination of ammo.  At first, I think Blizzard put it in there for a “realism” effect.  Having to say “I have to load up on ammo before we go run Dire Maul” was always a factor in the game.

But with 2 expansions, and the ability to buy ammo just about anywhere – along with the ability to stack ammo in lots of 1000 – makes the fact that you have to carry it around kind of moot.  You can have a 16 slot ammo pouch or a 22-24 slot bag FULL of ammo.  That’s 16,000 – 24,000 rounds.  Yes, Thousand.  That’s almost as unlimited as you can get, and will last you months.  The sooner Blizzard makes a ammo trinket hunters can swap out at will, the better. I’d rather lose a valuable trinket slot, than have to carry around ammo that takes up inventory space.

Segment 3 – You know what cheeses me off?

My mammoth mount cheeses me off!  The concept of riding a mammoth intrigued me and made me need to have one.  But now that I own a mammoth.  He’s too freaking big!  I’m constantly getting stuck in doorways and tree limbs.  I know a mammoth shouldn’t be able to fit in a sewer.  It wouldn’t make sense.  But I still hate it!  I’ve now been led to put the big mammoth away, pulling him out only on special occassions.

The ray of light that blocks the mailbox cheesed me off! But they fixed it!  So what cheeses me off now?  Leatherworking.  At least one part of LW annoys me.  Let’s say you have a stack  of Borean Leather that you want to make into Heavy Borean Leather.  You have to open up your LW menu, find the recipe for Heavy Borean Leather, and then Create them.  Why not just be able to right click on the leather to create the Heavy Borean?  Anyone can create Borean Leather from 5 Borean Leather Straps, so why not give Leather workers that ability for their various leathers?

Segment 4 – The Loot Table

For this week’s Loot Table, we point you to WoW Insider.  Lisa Poisso (Poy-so), of WoW Insider, writes a column called Two Bosses Enter.  The column matches up two Northrend instance bosses against each other.  She goes into detail about the strengths and abilities of each boss, with some lore mixed in.  Then, the readers vote on who would win the fight.  The winner of the match moves on to the next round.  Here’s a link to the entire Two Bosses Enter throwdown, so check it out!  http://www.wow.com/category/two-bosses-enter/

The Collector is a mod for all you Mount/Vanity Pet/Title lovers out there.  The mod lists all of the mounts, non-combat pets and title you DON’T currently have.  It takes into account your faction, class and profession, so you know exactly how many more you can get.  This is a great way to see what’s available out there and, more important, where or how you can obtain what you are missing.  You can get it at http://www.curse.com (just search for “The Collector”), or if you use the Curse Client, you can download it straight to your hard drive. Check it out!

Segment 5 – E-Mails and Q&A

You send us your email and MP3 attachments and we get to respond to them.  This is your chance to rack the brains of Stacalm and Gill.  Get those hard to find answers from the guys that know!  And if they don’t know…well…they’ll probably just make something up.
